Why does downloading as JPG add a background while PNG stays transparent?

The PNG format inherently supports transparency (alpha channel). When you pick “Transparent” (checkerboard pattern), both HD and Max export as pure transparent .png files. If you select a solid color (white, black, indigo) or a custom photo, the tool exports a clean .jpg with the backdrop merged.
